Autumn Dig
Nearly 3000 spring bulbs were planted around the school grounds on our first ever PSA sponsored Autumn Dig. The event was incredibly successful and we are extremely grateful to the parents and students who helped out.
We are delighted to announce the success of the PSA’s Autumn Dig that took place on Saturday 12th October. We look forward to seeing them blossom in spring time and being latterly responsible for creating an introduction to the season! With almost 3000 spring bulbs planted around the school grounds we hope the squirrels don’t get to them first before developing into a beautiful and colourful feature around Highgate Wood School.
Students and parents enjoyed ‘Making our Environment Better for Spring’; planting spring bulbs will ultimately have the impact of removing carbon dioxide and toxins in the air and feeding the honeybee population that is responsible for promulgating food crops.
At the left of the main entrance to the school (Montenotte Road) we planted approximately 1000 crocus bulbs along the grass verge and also left of the main entrance between the fence approximately 300 tulips and 300 daffodils were planted. Hopefully this will not get trampled on and will also save mowing after the spring flowering.
Approximately 1,200 spring bulbs were planted in the blue concrete planters containing trees in the main playground, 30 tulips and 30 daffodils were planted in each one.
Even more tulips, daffodils were planted between the Pod and covered area and in front of the library alongside the wall near the sports pitches as well as crocus’.
