Blazer Donation

A few weeks ago, Highgate Wood School was approached by Julian Chenery, founder of Wear A Sports Shirt, about the possibility of donating old school uniform to be rehomed.

Julian has built up a network of contacts with UK-based representatives who donate used clothing to other organisations worldwide.

As many are aware, the uniform at Highgate Wood School has undergone some slight modifications this year, one of which has resulted in the old school blazer being replaced by a new branded jumper. We recognised that this would provide a perfect opportunity to support Julian and his charitable cause by asking the HWS families whether they would like to donate their preloved blazers. In true HWS fashion, our School community was incredibly supportive. Over a 3-4 week time frame, we managed to collect 15 bags of blazers which were all donated!

On Friday 11th October, Julian visited Highgate Wood School for a handover of the blazers. He was accompanied by Ms Kona Seibure of the Advocacy for Mental Health and Human Rights in Sierra Leone. Some of the bags have since been allocated to the Raphael Akowe Foundation in Nigeria, with the rest to be distributed imminently to various other schools in need.

We would like to thank all of the Highgate Wood School families that have so generously donated their blazers to the recipients in need of them. We would also like to give special thanks to Julian at the Wear A Sports Shirt organisation for the great work that he does!
