GCSE Results Day
What an amazing day for students, parents and staff at Highgate Wood School as results are revealed and much better than expected!
Students and staff were absolutely thrilled with the extremely strong set of GCSE results achieved by the Year 11s. 1/3 of our students gained 5 or top more 9 to 7 grades placing them with some of the best results in the country. We are remarkably proud of the progress our students have made throughout their five years being at the school with a Progress 8 score of +0.54 which places us in the top 10% of schools nationally.
This year 74% of our students achieved 4+ in both English and Maths which is 7% up on last year. Even more impressive is the fact that 59% of our students achieved 5+ in both English and Maths which is an 11% increase on last year.
Star performers included Joshua Kingston (eight 9s, a 7 and an 8) and Leah Whittaker who got three 9s, three 8s and four 7s.
Headteacher, Mr Patrick Cozier writes:
We hoped that results would be better that the previous year. However, we were not quite expecting it to be this good! In terms of attainment, the figures represent our best ever results as a school. We are really pleased, absolutely delighted in fact. We’ve had some wonderful results – a number of students have picked up top grades, and our progress 8 score is +0.54, that’s fantastic. This put the school in the top 10 per cent nationally.
Almost 60% of students have got scores of 5+ in English and Maths, and we’re pleased lots of them are staying on in our sixth form – which says a lot for the teaching here. Last week the school’s A-levels were similarly successful – 23pc of all entries were As or A*s.
Data from the Department for Education already shows that over the last 6 years students at Highgate Wood School have made on average better than expected progress compared to their peers nationally. The results this year build on that already significant success are a deserved reward for our excellent and hard-working students. Their attitude has been first class and we are ecstatic for them that they have done so well. As a result of this, many more will be able to stay on and flourish in our successful sixth form.
