Highgate Wood School’s production of Philip Pullman’s GRIMM TALES featured a host of talented students and two wonderful nights of entertainment.

What a wonderful performance? Two nights of great entertainment performed by talented students at Highgate Wood School. All students involved enjoyed their participation in the show, a week later and it’s still the talk around the school!

Well done to all students for their hard-work and determination leading up to the GRIMM TALES. Lots of time was dedicated into rehearsing and organising for the show, students used their spare time going over their lines, attending rehearsals as well as showcasing a Matinee performance to Year 7’s and 8’s. Overall, the audience, the students and drama department as well as the rest of the school had an enjoyable experience in the making of GRIMM TALES.

Headteacher Patrick Cozier writes: 

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to see this year’s school production and I am gutted! From what I have been told by staff who did go to watch the production, it was a thoroughily entertaining and enjoyable evening with some stunning performances from some of our students. This is what we have come to expect from our amazing students, but we know that this is only possible because of the incredible commitment of staff. A big well done to Rachel Board and her team (and all other staff involved) for making this happen. I am very proud of our drama department particularly given that most of the team are new to HWS this academic year.

It was a real pleasure to showcase the hard work and creativity of so many talented students across the year groups and to share our weird and wonderful Grimm world with students, family, staff and friends of Highgate Wood School!

Students have been creating and rehearsing together, often leading their own rehearsals and devising in casts, in order to put their own stamp on their particular tale and to capture the fun, surprise and quirkiness of these very tall tales! We chose this style of production (6 ensemble performances) in order to give a large number of students the opportunity to capture many unique characters and to be a part of an exciting and diverse ‘company’ and they have certainly risen to the challenge; our enthusiastic and supportive audience agreed! We are really proud of the way they worked together as equals, sharing responsibilities and inspiring one another to be professional, funny, heartfelt and.… to learn their lines (not an easy task); all of which transported our enraptured audience to 6 strange and colourful stories of little men, a goose girl, snake leaves, faithful Johannes, a juniper tree and the donkey cabbage!
