Team Building Day
A fun-filled day for the Year 7s as they battled their way through the many challenges that was given to them. Congratulations Seacole House for your determination and team effort that awarded you with 1st place!
A special thanks to the PSA for funding this spectacular event and to the Problem Solving Company, our staff and Year 10 helpers for making it happen. They all had a marvelous time working as a team to unravel the puzzles that was set by the PSC. Team Building Day is a fun way for our new students to not only challenge themselves but to get to know each other and build and develop new friendships. Students responded to the day very well, they were extremely involved with the games and were all determined to work together to win points for their house team.
Throughout the day there were countless games and puzzles for the Year 7s that gave them the opportunity to develop their thinking skills and imagination as well as their interpersonal skills when working with their peers to solve each problem.
Here are some examples of the challenges and puzzles
To finish this game each bean bag was to be picked up by a blind-folded student and placed in the blue box. Other team members guided the student so they didn’t knock any pins down.
A task that needed everyone’s input was this one; the game wasn’t complete until every member of the team duplicated the pattern that was set. The member of staff or Year 10 helper in charge had access to the pattern but was only allowed to say if someones sequence was right or wrong. If a student stepped on a square that was wrong, they had to join the back of the queue. Students were allowed to help each other, luckily in each group was at least one member with a good memory.
This game probably caused the most frustration amongst all the teams. To finish the game the students were required to tilt the board to guide the ball from start to finish avoiding the obstacles along the way.
The game became the most addictive and tormenting task to complete, so many got so close… even the teachers had a crack at it! However, winning this game was very rewarding for teams that managed it.
Students kept in sync to stay on the wood to get from A to B. If a member stepped onto the ground the team had to start again.
Beginning with some boxes and wood, team members had to invent a way of getting from A to B without hitting the ground. Most teams worked out a similar method of placing the wood on the boxes and working their way across.
Although Seacole House won the title of first place, everyone displayed great teamwork, persistence and participation. We are pleased with the outcome of the day and would like to encourage our students to continue building relationships with others and to use and develop their skills that they used during Team Building Day.
