Alexandra Palace Children’s Book Award Ceremony
Ms Ereira writes:
Our Year 7 Book Club have been reading the six books shortlisted for the 2024 Alexandra Palace Children’s Book Award. It’s a book award very close to my heart; as one of the four shortlisters, I am a big fan of all the books on the shortlist!

On the day of the award ceremony, Alexandra Palace was packed with almost 1000 children, all of whom had voted for their favourite book, all excited to hear which book had won .
Jack Meggitt-Phillips, author of The Beast and the Bethany series, hosted the day in his fabulously entertaining style. He is a former winner of the award himself, so has close ties to the book award.
Our group were treated to a hilarious and frankly bonkers writing workshop with author Simon James Green in the morning, before the chance to meet the shortlisted authors for book signings.
In the afternoon, we reconvened in the Theatre to hear the result of the readers’ vote.
Simon James Green’s Finn Jones Was Here was the winner, and I strongly recommend that everyone reads it. It is laugh-out-loud funny and also a tear-jerker. A wonderful book.
