The wider aims of the catch up funding include:
• increase social mobility
• enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to get to the top universities
• ensure that students from all backgrounds have an equal opportunity to be successful
• reduce the attainment gap between the highest and lowest achieving pupils nationally.
Literacy and numeracy Interventions
The strategies employed last year include:
• Accelerated Reader – The school uses the Accelerated Reader programme to support the assessment and improvement of students’ reading age supporting their basic literacy skills.
• Appointment of a numeracy coordinator – to lead on the development of making the most of maths across the curriculum; developed differentiated mathematic intervention sessions during registration periods delivered by post 16 mathematic students.
• The creation of the Accelerate Group – Small group of identified students are placed into an additional smaller tutor group with a focus on making accelerated progress through developing key literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to access the challenges of the key stage three curriculum.
• Effective teaching and learning – whole school staff continuous professional development F.A.C.E sessions with a particular focus on how to work with students of different levels of attainment to support and challenge them appropriately.Quality first teaching has the strongest impact on pupil achievement and we believe this is critical to supporting student progress.
