Welcome to Highgate Wood Sixth Form

We are delighted that we have been consistently in the top 30% of schools in the country for the progress made by students in the Sixth Form, and this leads to very successful outcomes both in terms of exam results and the destinations available to our students.

We are a high-performing sixth form, above the national average for achievement. Our results have maintained our consistently high placing in national data tables.

• Our students achieved 27% A*/A grades, and over half (52%) of grades achieved by our students were A* to B. Our A* to C grades achieved are 76% and our average grade is a B-. The pass rate is once again  outstanding at 98%.
• The high attainment of our sixth form students places us amongst the top rank of sixth form providers nationally in terms of progress and value added performance. That means students at Highgate Wood School Sixth Form achieve better than they would do if they had attended most other schools or colleges in the country.
• Students from Highgate Wood School Sixth Form winning university and art college places across the country including at Russell Group universities: Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester, Bristol, Sheffield, Leeds, Birmingham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Liverpool, LSE, Southampton and Nottingham, Kings College.
•  Students from Highgate Wood School pursuing a huge a variety of courses and careers from criminology to computer science, philosophy to pharmacy, engineering to English literature.

Dear Prospective Sixth Former,

I am delighted that you are thinking of taking up a place at Highgate Wood Sixth Form and hope we will be able to welcome you next year. We are proud to have a popular Sixth Form where students make exceptional progress and can develop themselves fully as individuals. Year-on-year our results continue to be exceptionally strong, putting us right at the top of Sixth Form providers in the country and giving our students entrance to some of the most prestigious universities in the world. We enjoy this success thanks to a committed team of excellent subject teachers, a carefully planned programme of support and guidance and some great facilities.

Our track record of academic achievement and success is not just the consequence of our fantastic teachers and resources. It is also down to the young people who make up our Sixth Form. Our students are an amazing collection of aspiring individuals – creative, hardworking, highly motivated and inspirational. Each of them, in their own way, helps enrich and improve the life of our school as a whole and the lives of those who are around them.

Highgate Wood School has been involved in the education of some very remarkable individuals. From Robert Peston, the BBC’s business editor who played a key role in breaking the banking crisis story and Gary McKinnon, allegedly the biggest computer hacker of all time, to  actresses Scarlett Johnson and Anna Shaffer, the famous English footballer Laurie Cunningham, the fashion designer Ozwald Boateng and the singer Sonique, Highgate Wood School has had a part to play.

The Evening Standard declared Highgate Wood School among the “six of the best London comprehensives” because of our alumni’s achievements, and we continue to educate some extraordinary students and nurture some incredible talents.

Choosing where and what to study after Year 11 is probably the most important decision you have ever had to make. It is a choice that will not only shape the next two years but could influence the course of your whole life. You will be studying subjects you enjoy in a completely different way to GCSE, whilst developing as a person and deciding where your next steps should take you. You’ll discover new freedoms, new responsibilities and a world of choices and opportunities. You will be challenging yourself as an individual, gaining new independence and getting to know who you really are.

No two students are the same, but all use their time here to cultivate their potential and move close to realising their dreams. Some of our students aspire to study medicine or law, apply to Oxbridge or different Russell Group universities. Others want to pursue their studies at elite colleges for the arts, for music or technology. Some will be considering a swifter entry into the world of work, or possibly a gap year before taking a degree course. Whatever your aspiration or dream, we will be there to help, support and guide you. The success of our students and the effectiveness of our provision has made us increasingly natural choice for students from other schools as well as those for whom Highgate Wood is already very familiar.
