Independent Careers Guidance

Our Independent Careers Guidance is provided by Mr Kennington who is available in school every Wednesday and Week 2 Friday.

  • Students and parents from any year group can request to meet our independent careers advisor by emailing careers@hws.haringey.sch.uk
  • The careers lead will work to ensure that all students at KS4 and KS5 have the opportunity to receive independent careers guidance either in small groups or, if requested, 1-2-1.
  • The careers advisor works alongside our SEN department to meet students with EHCP’s.
  • The careers advisor will also be available to talk with parents and students during Post-14 and Post-16 option evenings as well as Year 9, 11, 12 and 13 parent evenings.
  • Students will generally be informed the week before their meeting

 

 

Websites we recommend

UNIFROG

  • This has already been launched with Years 9, 11, 12 and 13 (Jan 2022). By the summer term it will also have been launched with Year 7, 8 and 10.
  • We are working on organising parental logins for this platform.
  • At KS3 and KS4 it is used as an aid for careers exploration, student can complete quizzes to investigate and explore pathways and careers which they may find interesting. Students can also use the platform at KS4 to search for apprenticeships. All independent careers guidance interviews will be recorded and stored on student profiles.
  • At KS5 students use the platform as part of careers exploration and management. Students will plan their work experience placements, prepare university applications and search and apply for apprenticeships through the platform.

Skills Builder

  • We follow the Skills Builder curriculum to teach the 8 essential career skills (see logo’s below).
  • Activities and skills from this site are used throughout KS3 and KS4 tutor times.
  • At home students can work through short activities linked to these essential skills by using the Home Learning site. Students will be set work using Launchpad. To access this work students receive a code on SMHW and they created their own login. If they forget their details they should click ‘forgot password’.
