Year 7s were delighted by their fun-filled day of activities for Well Being Day, what a wonderful way to end the week!
On the 21st November our Year 7 students took part in numerous activities with the aim to teach, model, build behaviour practices and support a learning environment where the connection of learning about mental and physical health and wellbeing is reinforced. It’s self-evident that our students had an amazing day participating in all of today’s activities and we hope that they continue to be happy learners at Highgate Wood School.
What activities did the students take part in?
There was a wide-spread program that Year 7s where involved in, from a Film Fest, Zoo Lab to a personal training session. In each activity students were given the opportunity to develop and build new bonds and friendship with each other whilst participating in activities that they chose and enjoyed.
Here are some of the many activities that students took part in:
Clay Pottery
Over two periods students were shown how to make facial figures through clay pottery. This session lasted two hours giving them plenty of time to go as wild with their creations as they liked.
Arts and Craft
Arts and craft was an exercise where students could explore their creativity and imagination. Year 7s crafted different pieces of art such as video game characters, flowers, people and much more.
Zoo Lab
Our students were extremely brave in our Zoo Lab when learning, seeing and the majority holding some of the creatures brought into the school including a millipede, two hissing cockroaches, tree frog, snake and a gecko.
Board Game Fest
Groups of students enjoyed a friendly competition when playing a game board of their choice for the hour. The games gave our Year 7s a fun lesson on using their thinking and creative skills.
Trampolining
Students took it in turns to bounce about on the trampoline showing off their most favorite skills from somersaults, seat drops to jumping as high as they possibly can.
Slime Making
A very messy and fun task making colourful slime was the highlight for many at Year 7 Well Being Day. What an amazing job the students did! They followed the instructions given to them very well, worked extremely well with each other whilst part taking in a fun science lesson resulting in some gooey slime and new friendships.
Mindfulness Colouring
A relaxed approach to the day was ‘Mindfulness Colouring’, students were given templates to colour in with a choice of many different colours surrounded with some beautiful and peaceful tunes.
Drumming
An exciting addition to the day was the drumming session. Students explored their musical talents and coordinated their rhythms making one truly amazing tune.
Personal training session
Putting their fitness to the test was a solid circle of circuit training, giving students the opportunity to try out different exercises using different equipment.
A student from year 7 writes:
I really enjoyed Well Being Day as I got to play lots of games that I liked and got to know other people in my year group and made new friends.
A huge thank you to all members of staff that helped on the day and or lead sessions! This day wouldn’t have been such a success if it wasn’t for the amazing commitment and dedication from our staff.
