Artist Residency
Amazing work crafted by our amazing students!
Twelve of our Year 9 Art students took part in an ambitious artist residency funded by charity AIR, who are committed to getting professional artists into schools. The boys worked on a Sci-Art project with artist Alistair Lambert, a sculptor with many years of experience of working with schools. Lambert created an exciting skeletal structure with our students inspired by fish skeletons.
We were seeking to engage our students to explore Art and Design as a pathway for a career in the creative and cultural industry by providing a truly enriching experience. We feel we have done all of those things and so much more. We are thrilled with the sculpture, but we are even more pleased that the residency became a real community project with many people in the school also lending a hand.
Our students felt empowered and amazed, and by the end of it told us again and again that they couldn’t believe that “we made that!” We really feel that it has given our students a sense of agency and ownership and a great understanding of how art, science and technology can work together. We have plans to build on this next year by turning our fish into a shoal and of course getting even more of our students involved.
The students worked extremely well! I am very impressed with the creativity and the overall outcome of the project.
